The ‘Human Race’

Written by Bear Silber in ,

I just got back from Shoreline where I competed in the ‘Human Race’. It’s a 10K (6.2 miles) put on by the Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley. It was a lot of fun and I did pretty good. The results haven’t been posted online yet so I don’t know where I stand percentage-wise in the different divisions but here are my stats:

Place: 50th
Time: 47:07
Sex Place: 44th
Division Place: 24th
Pace: 7:34

There were several thousand participants but I’ll see if I finished in the top 5% (one of my goals). I wanted to finish with a pace under 7 minutes but I didn’t quite make it. I know I could have and I’m kind of pissed at myself for not pushing it. It was a longer race so I didn’t really know where I stood. I need to get a good watch so I know if I need to step it up at all.

Overall I had a good time. I got a free massage afterwards which was nice. Everyone there was really friendly (as always) and I finished much higher in the overalls than I did at Pat’s run (50th as opposed to 135th). They had free bagels, pizza and Dunkin’ Donuts but I did not partake. I never understood why they serve things like pizza and donuts after a race, especially a 10K. I took a bunch of bananas and oranges for the house :)

I’ll update you with other stats when they come in. Next week is the Bay to Breakers (12K), and right now I’m tired just thinking about it. There’s supposedly a huge hill at the 2.5 mile mark. Whew…we’ll see how that goes.
