Portable Rotary Cell Phone

Written by Bear Silber in ,

Need a new cell phone? Why not get Spark Fun Electronics new portable rotary cell phone. It is fully functional and uses your current cell phone number and provider. The battery life is 5-6 hours.

You actually use the rotary to dial and when the phone rings it uses the original bells.

Run Homebrews on your PSP

Written by Bear Silber in ,

So I heard a rumor that you can run various emulators, programs and games on you PSP. It seems that this rumor is true, PSP-Dev has figured out how to do it. For MSwap Tool version 0.2 Click Here

I had the pleasure of working this hack out on my friends PSP. You will need 2 memory sticks and either a USB cable or a memory stick reader. Follow the easy instructions on how to prepare a PBP file using MSwap Tool vo.2 . Once you get the two output folders (MP1 & MP2) from MSwap you will need to put the contents of MP1 on the first memory stick under “PSP/GAME/PROGRAM/” where “PROGRAM” is the name of the application. Now put the contents of MP2 on the second memory stick under “PSP/GAME/PROGRAM/” making sure the “PROGRAM” is the same on both memory sticks.

Now insert the first memory stick into the PSP. Go to games and go to the memory stick. Run the application. Once the white screen comes up quickly remove memory stick one and replace memory stick two. Your application should now run properly on the PSP.

Slumping Box Office

Written by Bear Silber in

Apparently Hollywood is having it’s worst slump in the last 20 years. http://money.cnn.com/2005/06/16/news/newsmakers/boxoffice_sales/

I would like to think that my Box Office Boycott had something to do with this but that would be highly optimistic of me. More probable is the fact that for a couple to go to the movies costs roughly $36.

$21.00 ($10.50 per person) Tickets
$6.00 Large Popcorn
$5.00 Large Soda
$4.25 Large Candy
$31.25 Movie Night

That’s without children. Now for the same $36 dollars you could rent around nine movies and watch them at home. You could also purchase two DVDs and get to watch all the special features. You could go out to dinner and actually have a nice conversation for that amount.

Although prices are to blame, that’s not all. Aout of the 600 or so movies released a year, I personally only enjoy around a dozen of them. If I’m going to pay $36 I would hope to at least enjoy the time. How many movies coming out of Hollywood do you actually enjoy? Probably around 25% are good, 25% are horrible and 50% are bearable, just bearable. I don’t enjoy bearable. Sitting at at my girlfriends brothers wedding is bearable, that doesn’t mean I enjoy it.

The sad part is that Hollywood and the theatres don’t even get it. They think that home consoles, DVDs and home theatres are to blame. They blame everyone but themselves. I would love to spend a night at the movies but I know I’m going to get crap most of the time so I don’t. Start making good movies, charge a fair price and you will see an improvement in sales.

Motion pictures started as an artform. Hollywood needs to bring the industry back to its roots.

Coca-Cola Zero

Written by Bear Silber in

Coke Zero

While shopping at Safeway today I came across Coke Zero. I had never heard about it before this point. The packaging drew my attention and I proceded to purchase two of them (2 of $1.00 with a Safeway Club Card.) I must say that I enjoy it much more than Diet Coke & Diet Coke with Splenda. It doesn’t have as much bite as other diet sodas but at the same time is less sweet. It actually tastes more like Coca Cola Classic.

I had my brother do a blind taste test and he was able to differentiate between Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Also, he enjoyed Coke Zero more. I would recommend all who have not tried it to give it a taste.

Not Guilty

Written by Bear Silber in

A little after 2:00 P.M. PST today Michael Joe Jackson was found not guilty on all charges brought against him.

What is it about celebrity and high profile court cases? I found myself watching the annoucement live, listening to the Court Clerk read off the verdicts. I felt like I was a part of something, maybe even a part of history. I remember for the OJ verdict my class took half the day off just to watch it.

Nothing even happened. Some wierd (wealthy) guy got accused of doing some weird things by some people who felt that they could lie well enough to get some money. In the end, he’s still weird and wealthy (we’ll see) and the parents didn’t get a dime. Michael went through hell for 205 days, countless man hours were essentially wasted, county and state monies were wasted, people were hastled and Santa Maria was turned into a zoo all because a couple people thought that they could get money out of a weird rich guy. Yet most of America was riveted by this, including myslef. Why? So I can say I watched the verdict live. Woo hoo.

I hope the parents relize what they’ve put their children through and I hope they straighten up. I really hope Michael relizes where he’s headed (reportedly he’s in debt over 600 million) and he gets his act together. Obviously he is doing some things wrong. I do think good things will come from this but we’ll see. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned.
